No matter what kind of business you have — whether you sell products or a service, as the saying goes, “if you fail to plan, then you’re really planning to fail.”
Creating a strategy can mean the difference between you working 60 to 80 hours a week all year long — and then breaking even, or worse, losing money.
On the other hand, many successful entrepreneurs who have a strategy work fewer hours and make piles of money — and they usually attribute their success to having a strategic plan and following it.
So what is strategic business management? Very simply, it’s the process of defining the goals and objectives for your business, creating an action plan so you can reach them and then following the plan.
How do you create a strategic plan for you business?
1. First, know what your vision for your company is. If there were no barriers, nothing stopping you from taking your company as far as you could — what would that look like?
2. Next, what are your company’s core operating values? What are its guiding principles? In other words, why are you in business and how do you do business?
3. Now create a 3 to 5 year plan. Your long-term plan is based on the broad objectives that will help you get from where you are now, to where you want to be.
4. Develop a plan for this year. These are the specific objectives you plan to accomplish this year that will lead you closer to your long-term goals. Remember to be “SMART” when setting your annual goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-oriented). Include a list of the barriers that are stopping you from getting where you want to go. Figure out what resources you’ve already got, and what resources you need to get you past those barriers. And then create an action plan that clearly lays out how you will achieve your goals. Involve key employees with this part of the planning process.
5. Create a set of milestones or benchmarks. This is very important, so that you can measure your progress.
6. Share the plan with your employees, and anyone else who will be involved in the process. Your annual strategy is the roadmap that will make sure everyone ends up at the same destination — but to be effective, everyone needs the same map!
7. Put the plan into action. Now that you have the roadmap, it’s time to begin the journey.
8. Check your progress. Just like any trip, you need to check the map every now and then; to be sure you’re still on the right road. If something isn’t working, the sooner you figure it out and make the necessary adjustments, the sooner you’ll be back on track.
9. Follow the same cycle next year. (Dream, Plan, Act, Check).

The question is should I spend the extra several bills to purchase a flat panel monitor, or should I stick the fad out with my very functional regular box monitor? The answer is that there is no answer. There are basically two things that I see that are attractive about the new monitors that are sweeping across the world, into consumers homes, at an incredible rate. First they are attractive, low profile, elegant and refined. Second they take up less room and weigh less than the typical box-type monitor that has been with us for decades.
What I dont see a difference in is everything else. When I say everything else I am talking about quality of graphic both as far as color and clarity, efficiency of power usage, compatibility with other types of media (TV, DVD, etc.), and cost. Wait that last one that is wrong. There definitely is a difference in price and that is the biggest reason why I think that I will wait until the fad of the flat panel monitor is out the window and the prices for these admittedly attractive looking machines is down to earth and worth their weight (which is considerably less as mentioned above.
Now I have been strictly talking about computer monitors in this discussion about flat panel monitor pros and cons. What I should mention next is the TV which I take a very different tone. I think that there are enough cool things about the flat screen TV that I would be willing to pay a good bit more for one of them than for the box TV. HOWEVER I still think that the price tag on these beautiful creatures is a bit exorbitant and I will have to wait until they come back down to earth.
So why do I think the TV flat panel monitors are so cool. Well for one the thought of being able to hang your TV on the wall is one of the coolest things that I have heard of. That is about the best savings of room that I can imagine for a TV. The other thing is that the picture quality on these TVs is head and shoulders above the rest of the TVs that are equal in sized but not flatness. The plasma screen allows higher resolution and better image quality without the distortion that you get from a rounded screen.

I recently moved to Florida and off came the shoes and on went an old pair of sandals. I love the outdoors, – walking on the beach but within a couple of weeks the skin on the back of my heels started to split. It was painful!
There were two things here - One, I had to quickly do something about the open split and figure out how it was happening. Well, three things, I had to get it to heal up as well. And make sure it did not happen again I guess thats four.
So, the first thing I did was to put some lotion on my foot. The lotion I used has honey and aloe vera amongst other things. It is called Thentix A Touch of Honey. The anti bacterial properties of these two ingredients and some others helped to prevent infection. The next thing I had to do was somehow close and protect the fissure or split. This is not easy on feet. Band-aids dont work. They wont stick to the skin on the heel. Ive done some research on different kinds of glues and from this I know there are medical superglues that are used for suturing. There are certain types of cyanoacrylate* (*the technical term for super glue type glues) that are used for this. Well, I didnt have one of those and had no idea where to get one but I did have some Miracle Glue which has similar properties. Now it is pretty runny so be careful not to try and put this on your foot when sitting on the sofa or over a carpet or kitchen floor. If you spill it, dont expect to get it off. So, once the lotion has dried, apply some of the glue to the split an allow it to dry. Open to the air like this it will take a little while. I would not advise trying to wipe off any excess with your finger unless you dont mind hobbling around for a few hours with your finger attached to your foot. Once it is dry you may want to wear shoes and socks for a day or so. Then each night before I go to bed I put some of the Thentix on my whole heel to keep it moist, supple and allow healing.
Putting the lotion on each day like this helps soften the skin as there was quite a callus built up on the back of my heel and the pressure pushing on the back of my heel with lousy sandals was helping the skin to crack. You could also use a pumice stone or something similar to rub off some of the skin. Take it easy on this or you are going to create more problems.
The causes of cracks or fissures in the feet can be caused from: anything that is putting undue pressure on the heel standing too long particularly in ill fitting shoes or sandals; obesity; as well as some diet problems and other general skin conditions.
Is it an Ongoing Problem?
On top of the obvious immediate handlings I would advise seeing a nutritionist or doctor if this is an ongoing problem. A podiatrist or chiropractor may need to be consulted as well to see if posture or other foot problems are the cause. Eczema or psoriasis can also be contributing factors. Using the Thentix A Touch of Honey and the Miracle Glue will help the symptoms in this case but one should definitely see a doctor or nutritionist to search out and handle the cause. The problem could be something as simple as a vitamin or mineral deficiency.
The same sort of problem can happen with hands particularly the ends of the fingers. Often people working with chemicals or drying agents like mortar will have problems. Have a look at bricklayers hands sometime. The ends of his fingers often have cracks in the skin that are very slow to heal. I would suggest the same thing: make sure that the cracks are clean and dry and apply some of the lotion. When that is dry glue run a bead of glue along the fissure. I would not use just any type of glue for this if you can find one thats approved for skin all the better. And use honey lotion as the healing properties of honey can be quite dramatic.
Doing the above, I have been back to wearing sandals with no other ill effects.

For a while I have been considering starting a snow boarding business and really do think it is something that will have a lot of potential. In my area there are two slopes near by and there is no local businesses that service us snow boarder’s needs. What I would like to do is start a snow boarding business that sells snow boarding clothing and snow boarding equipment and of course boards themselves. For years I have been trying to think of a business idea and I really feel that incorporating my love for snow boarding with my love for business would be a great idea. I done a degree in business however since achieving this degree I have yet to actually go out there and give it a try in the real world on my own. I am currently a business consultant for an accountancy firm, and although I enjoy my job my true desire is to go out and do it on my own, and for myself.

Fishing is something that many people consider a process of luck and chance. For example, the average gentleman who approaches the local waterway on a Sunday afternoon has a chance of catching a specimen. But does his lonely prawn sitting in front of an oversized sinker, slowly drifting downstream set a scene for a positive or negative chance of a capture?
I firmly believe that fishing should be approached with a goal and the necessary knowledge and skills in order to maximise success. The fisherman who envisions an eighty-two centimetre flathead (goal) and visits a sandy bank on sunset accompanied by a run-out tide and the correct outfit, is significantly increasing the chances of achieving his goal.
Land Based Shark Fishing (LBSF) can only be successful when skill is relied on, much like the gentleman targeting an oversized flathead. Certainly, someone who views capturing a big shark as chance or luck will never be successful. Catching a large specimen from the beach requires consideration of the strategic key points that follow.
1. Choosing the right bait is a large part of this operation and after many years of testing different specimens the local eel and ray populations have produced outstanding results. These baits last in the water for over twenty-four hours and are gorged on by big hungry sharks.
2. Tide times and moon phases are a primary consideration for LBSF and fishing time must be optimised around certain strategic points. For most sharks, fishing a run-out tide on a new moon will almost guarantee results. Some of our local crew have predicted strikes within thirty seconds of a low tide change.
3. Rigs must be made with large J-style hooks (14O 16O) and crimped onto insulated wire, as micro voltages generated from bare cable and salt water consistently deter potential customers. Taped coat hanger wire can quickly be converted to a three-prong anchor that should be bound to the cable to secure the bait to the seabed, minimising drift. Furthermore, cable or electrical ties are the ultimate devices for securing a large eel or ray to a rig for optimal bait presentation.
4. The right equipment is essential even though it may be a large investment. Penn international 50 or 80 size reels or similar Shimano Tiagra set-ups work brilliantly. Spooling these units with 80 to 100 pound lines and mounting them on 24 or 37kg rods will usually convince most large sharks to turn their head toward the beach. Black Magic belts and Braid harness set-ups are also critical when a strike is converted to a battle.
5. Using an inflatable craft powered by a small outboard should be enough for bait deployment. Environments such as Moreton Island in Queensland, Australia offer a sharp drop off which means bait can be confidentially dispatched into deep water. Deploying baits just over drop-offs or in three to ten metres of water often produce good results. Remember that deploying baits near the horizon only reduces the amount of line you have to control a specimen.

Early Life
Barry Alan Pincus was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 17, 1943. His father was of Russian and Jewish descent, and his mother was Irish. His parents split up when Barry was only two, and he was raised by his mother and maternal grandparents. He was introduced to music when he was seven, when he began to learn the piano and accordion.
Prior to his Bar Mitzvah at age 13, Barry began to sing. It was also at this time that he changed his name to match that of his mothers maiden name – Manilow. In several ways, 1956 was the year Barry Manilow was born.
Budding Career
He continued singing through high school, and upon graduation, he was accepted to the prestigious Julliard School of Music. He paid his tuition by working in the CBS mail room. This proved to be a fortuitous school-time job. Manilow advanced at CBS, and wound up serving as the musical director for the CBS show Callback.
For the next few years, Manilow made his way by writing and performing advertising jingles, including the now-famous song for State Farm Insurance. His work got him noticed, and in 1971 he was hired by Bette Midler as her pianist and music director. He accompanied her on several bath house performances in New York City before Midler herself gained fame and fortune. His work with Midler helped her rise to the top, and as a result, Manilow landed his first record deal in 1973.

Although Manilows first album, Barry Manilow, was not a huge success, his follow-up, Barry Manilow II, contained what became his first smash hit, the single, Mandy, which climbed to number one in both the US and UK. From there, an incredible run of commercial success ensued. Manilows next six albums all reached the Top 10 on the US Album charts, and some of the singles he produced during this time have remained popular to this day, including I Write The Songs in 1975 and Looks Like We Made It in 1977.

Manilows style has transformed over the years as well. His early works were almost exclusively love songs and ballads. However, in the early 1980s, Manilow began to focus more on smooth jazz and worked with such legends of the genre as Mel Torme and Sarah Vaughan.
Overall, though, Manilow is best known for his romantic singing and sometimes crooning ways on stage, and his shows have been sold out in nearly every venue for decades. His fans number in the millions and his act is imitated by many.
Manilow has won two Grammy Awards during his career for his singing performances, and in 2002, he was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone Magazine called him the best performer of his generation. His charitable works are too numerous to list in one volume.

If you need snowboarding training then it is important that you make sure that the training you get is good, and from an appropriately trained snow boarding trainer. That is why you have to consider ways that this can be done to meet the needs, and goals that you have set yourself. What I always tell people is that there is no point in telling yourself that you are going to be the best snowboarder in the world, because that just isn’t going to happen in a few months. What I done was set myself the challenge of being able to do the second most challenging slope, of three at my local snowboarding centre. Once I set myself this challenge I had something to work towards and a goal that I could aim to achieve. This is what you should do, and the chances of getting further in the sport are greatly increased. Once I achieved this goal, my next goal was to handle the most difficult slope and then to improve my times and agility after that. You should set goals before you start snowboarding training and then you will be more likely to achieve your goals in the shortest time.

One night after spending hours in our local club and consuming large amounts of alcohol me and a few of my friends were on the way to a well know fast food chain outlet to get some food. At the doors we were stopped by a homeless guy asking us to donate him some money in order for him to get some food. Being nicely happy we decided to get him some ourselves.
After spending, what seemed like hours in the queue we slowly walked back to the door only to discover that one of my burger buns was not there. Obviously I have decided to go back and complain. Surprisingly a nice lady at the counter did not even ask any questions. She was very apologetic and on top of that I got given 6 chocolate doughnuts as compensation.
On the way out I have discovered a bun lying on the floor next to the door. It turned out that when I was carrying my food I have managed to lose the top bit of my burger. So it was not kitchen staffs fault at the end. Nevertheless we walked out to get some fresh air and eat our food.
Outside there was the same homeless guy asking more people to sponsor his meal. He was probably even less sober than us because he came up to me for the second time with the same food request. Since I now had extra doughnuts I decided to give him the whole lot of 6 as well as the chips we got him. It does feel good helping someone less fortunate than you.
The homeless guy took the food, had a little sniff and binned the whole lot straight away. While me and my friends were standing there stunned by his audacious behaviour he turned around and went off to ask more people for money. I guess he was not hungry after all
