Shouldn’t The Internet Be Equal ?
Tuesday, July 27th, 2010
Something comes along that has the potential to make us all equal, a communication medium that a large percentage of the world can view. Although obviously many areas are limited, it’s surprising how far the internet has pervaded into the most remote of places. But nevertheless the chance to communicate as equals all across the globe.
But it’s being spoilt, governments, agencies, political parties and online companies are already restricting what we can or cannot see. IN Turkey for instance you normally can’t see Youtube as there have been some nasty videos put up. In Thailand, many web sites have been banned for saying negative things about the Royal family there. Australia are embarking on a hugely misguided internet censorship campaign which will actually ban the purchase of loads of computer games for 18 years olds.
Want to chat over facebook with someone in Iran, I’m afraid not – banned there you see. Countries are slowly building up huge lists of places you can’t visit on the web. The problem is when you start blocking websites you have to keep going as you’re implying the stuff you didn’t ban is ok. It’s a race they’ll never win and in the meantime more and more of the internet will be less accessible across the globe.
But there’s more, I travel around a lot and actually miss my home TV from the UK. But it doesn’t matter to the BBC that I’m a license payer, when I’m connecting to Iplayer from a hotel in Berlin I’m going to get blocked. But fear not, as always the technology never quite keeps up with the crackpot ideas, so there are routes around these problems. Yes I can use technology to watch UK TV abroad, I shouldn’t need to but at least I can. But think of the poor sods in North Korea who have extremely limited internet access and the sites that are allowed are approved by the North Korean Government – which is basically means sites they created !
U.s. Postal Service Saves Energy With 2.5 Acre Green Roof
Monday, July 26th, 2010
Covering some 109,000 square feet (or about 2.5 acres), the new green roof atop the Morgan mail processing facility in New York City is a first for the U.S. Postal Service. The green roof, installed in 2009, continues to perform better than expected, going a long way to help meet the agency’s goal of reducing energy use by 30 percent within five years.
“A year ago, the Postal Service projected the green roof would help the Morgan facility save $30,000 in annual energy expenses,” said Tom Samra, vice president, Facilities. “We’re pleased to have surpassed that goal, saving more than $1 million since the implementation of the green roof and other energy–saving measures at Morgan.”
The green roof is currently the largest in New York, and easily one of the Postal Service’s most ambitious environmental projects. The roof is expected to last at least 50 years, providing not only energy savings for the Morgan mailing facility, but also a reduction in polluted water runoff. The vegetation and soil absorb, retain, and transpire water, helping to reduce the total amount of surface runoff (by as much as 75 percent in summer and 40 percent in winter) while also “cleaning” the water that does eventually make its way from the rooftop to city storm drains.
In addition to the green roof at the Morgan facility, the Postal Service has a number of LEED-certified buildings including Post Offices in Denver, CO, and Southampton, NY; and mail processing centers in Greenville, SC, and Troy, MI. The energy savings efforts of the Postal Service can certainly go a long way when they currently maintain about 287 million square feet of floor space.
“We’re working greener every day,” said Sam Pulcrano, vice president, Sustainability. “Our total energy use is down and to date, the Postal Service has reduced facility energy intensity by more than 21 percent based on a 2003 baseline, well ahead of the federal goal of 12 percent.”
Teen Car Insurance — Lower Mileage Helps
Sunday, July 25th, 2010
There are very many factors that will affect your ability to get a cheap teen car insurance rate. While we might NOT take a look at many of them in this short post, we’ll like to take a look at one that has a very serious impact on your rate (If this one isn’t favorable to you, then you are certainly paying very high rates)…
It is your mileage count. Your annual mileage is a very important factor when your premium is being computed. Simply put: The higher your annual mileage, the higher your rate would be.
The reason for this isn’t far fetched. Ask yourself some very easy questions: Who is more likely to have a road accident all other things being equal — A person who drives often and another who drives less often? Also ask yourself which vehicle is going to be more subject to wear and tear and therefore need to be fixed or maintained? The answers to these are pretty obvious hence the importance of your mileage to your insurer.

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010
Over 40 million American men and women suffer from certain levels of sleep disorder. But more men are affected simply because they ignore the signs and take their the importance of having a good sleep for granted. Fortunately, many studies have led to curing this disorder. They suggest ways on how to overcome your sleeping disorder and prevent it from coming back. These can involve surgery as an extreme method and changing your habits as the more subtle ways. Having a good night’s sleep can start from taking a warm soothing bath and drinking milk right before bedtime. Wearing and mens dressing gowns and women’s silky night gowns, can add to the comfort of a good rest. Pyjamas and other bedtime clothing should be comfortable and made of nice, soft materials. Cottons and silk are always preferred over other fabrics. As much as possible, no one wants to undergo an invasive procedure. One, because it can be risky, and two, because of the medical costs that can go with it. So, go for the inexpensive but effective way to finally get the sleep that you deserve.
Using The Dry Extraction Carpet Cleaning Method
Thursday, July 22nd, 2010
Another unique method of cleaning carpets by the professionals is the dry extraction method. For most homeowners, a carpet cleaning machine like the hoover F5914 is really all you need to use, but if you have more delicate types of carpets then you might want to check this out.
The dry extraction cleaning method utilizes a special type of absorbent compound that is then scrubbed into the fibers of your carpet by either a machine or a unique scrub brush. This compound is designed to attract all of the dirt, grime, oil, etc., like a magnet of sorts. Once it is scrubbed into the carpet, they then remove it with a high powered vacuum.
It works rather well, especially on carpets made of wool or cotton that would be destroyed by using water and solution on them. No, this method is not for everyone, and the cost is much higher than your standard type of carpet cleaning, but the end result is quite good.
The Steps You Must Take To Restore Love
Thursday, July 22nd, 2010
If you really want to know how to get back with your ex, there are some steps that may be painful, but must be done to get through the process successfully. In order to get your ex back successfully, you must be willing to go through this painful process because in the end, it’s going to do you more good than anything else. Your entire life and way of thinking and living may change as a result. First, you have to be talking to your ex or you’ll never have a chance to determine what went wrong (maybe not talking was the problem to start with). Secondly, figure out what you think the reasons for the breakup were. Be honest. If there were problems that you ignored because you really didn’t care if they were repaired or not, then you’re probably not going to reconcile — at least long term. Admit your mistakes. It’s the adult thing to do and a smart move.
Ibanez Rg Guitars Versus Custom Guitars
Sunday, July 18th, 2010
The more you read reviews on Ibanez rg electric guitars the more you can save for certain that many folks do NOT understand a very important distinction between these guitars and custom made guitars. I’ll attempt to clear the air here…
RG series guitars are mass produced. That is, luthiers have a certain specification and they make sure they build their guitar to deal to that specification. Would it suit everyone? I bet it wouldn’t. It doesn’t matter if such member of the RG family costs $300 or $3K. But a custom made guitar is built to the specific taste of a particular guitarist: You the customer.
All your fantasies and preferencies are capture. There’s NO way you won’t be happy with a custom guitar provided you do it in the right place. But then don’t forget that these guitars do cost a lot. If you place them side by side and feature by feature they simply can’t compare with mass produced guitars that are within the same price range. In fact, there are price ranges that can’t give you a custom guitar.
A Clever Idea That I Would Have Never Thought Of!
Sunday, July 18th, 2010
I have a digital phone and I love it as it stores one hundred numbers and has caller ID and so many functions that it is just like a mobile around the home as it is cordless. The digital phone problem I had when I first got it is that it took me nearly two hours to put all of my numbers in and by the time I had done that, the batteries went in the phone so I couldn’t use it until I put it on charge! The other problem I had was that the batteries do not last any longer than two hours which is annoying when you have left the phone somewhere and not put it back on the charger! I decided to call my phone provider to see if there was something I could do about it and they gave me a great idea. They suggested that I buy another phone that would be connected with the my original one and if I left one of them off the charger, the other one would be fully charged and I would always have another one to use if the batteries went in the other!
Reliable Curling Iron To Use
Saturday, July 17th, 2010
When I was younger, especially in my teen years, I would always damage my hair by experimenting with various hair care products and styling tools. For some apparent reason, when it came to my hair, I always had bad luck. In my quest to not damage my hair and not waste too much money, I decided to visit an online hair styling website to get advice on hair curling irons and hair styling products. I was looking for a durable and reliable product that was reasonably priced but did it’s job very well. I also did not want to damage my hair, however I was really wanting curls. There were reviews and information on several different brands that you can pull up online. I had heard of some of the brands of curling irons; in particular the conair curling iron. I am leaning towards purchasing the product based on the reviews and information presented on the website.
